AHA/JSA - Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO)

An Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) is an essential component of a LOTO program since it identifies specific hazards associated with each job step, allowing for the implementation of appropriate control measures. An AHA can prevent incidents such as unexpected machinery start-ups, electrocutions, and workplace injuries caused by uncontrolled energy sources, ultimately saving lives and preventing property damage.  The AHA enhances lockout/tagout safety and effectiveness by identifying potential hazards and providing a structured approach to hazard mitigation.

Some examples of stored energy sources include mechanical, thermal, chemical, gravitational, hydraulic, air and kinetic.
